Mexico focuses on vaccination as poultry cull continues

Avian Influenza is continuing to devastate the Mexican poultry industry with some reports stating that two million birds have now been destroyed.

According to the last notification report of the OIE dated 28th February, there are 11 reported outbreaks in the Guanajuato region with over 1 million susceptible birds confirmed. However, there are fears that the number is growing ostensibly and the impact will soon be felt on the market as was the case last year, when prices sky-rocketed as a result of an AI outbreak.

There will be no forced chemotherapy for a 16-year-old Virginia cancer patient, following the announcement of an agreement with social services workers that will allow Abraham Cherrix to determine his own treatment course.

The ruling Wednesday from Circuit Court Judge Glen A. Tyler in Accomack County said he had approved a consent decree that both social workers and the patient and his parents had agreed to follow, according to the Associated Press. The report said the decree will allow Abraham to choose his own Hodgkin's disease cancer expert who must be board-certified in radiation therapy and be interested in alternative treatments.

South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds today signed into law a highly restrictive anti-abortion bill aimed ultimately at overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. The legislation, passed last month by state lawmakers, bans abortion in nearly every case and punishes doctors who perform one with a $5,000 fine and five years in prison.

Hospitals tagging babies with electronic chips

Over half the birthing facilities in Ohio are being equipped with an RFID infant protection system placed on infants at birth to prevent them from being abducted from the hospital or from being given to the wrong mother.

"Standard protocol in the hospitals using the VeriChip system is that the baby receives an RFID anklet at birth and the mother receives a matching wristband," VeriChip spokeswoman Allison Tomek told WND. "The mothers are not asked."

Amendment would establish life at conception

Citizens have proposed an amendment to Michigan's constitution establishing that a person exists at the moment of conception.

The designation would give any unborn child constitutional rights of due process and equal protection. A backer of the proposal, Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, said the petition drive is "vitally important if we are to insure that Michigan becomes a pro-ife state after Roe v. Wade is overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court."

Shockingly unsanitary conditions discovered at an abortion clinic in which the proprietor was accused of eating a fetus have prompted consideration of a bill by the Kansas Legislature to tighten up regulations for all medical facilities.

Last spring, Krishna Rajanna's abortion clinic in Kansas City was raided after former employees made allegations of coffee cups full of syringes, medical tools stored near toilets and fetuses stored in refrigerators used by employees for lunches. At least one employee claimed to have witnessed Rajanna microwaving a fetus and mixing it into his own lunch.

An Iowa grandmother has been banished to jail, including a night in isolation, after refusing to give in to a judge's demand that she submit to a psychiatric exam and take psychotropic drugs if prescribed to mitigate her opposition to abortion.

"I find it especially strange and abhorrent that a female judge would somehow think it is normal for Planned Parenthood to systematically kill babies in the womb, but abnormal for me to oppose these serial killers," the court pleading said. "Is it not hypocritical for this court to acknowledge a women's purported right in seeking medical help for destroying her child, while denying me the basic right to refuse 'medical help?'"

Sewer system probed following plutonium spill

City officials in Boulder, are investigating whether plutonium, the key ingredient in triggers for nuclear bombs, was washed into their municipal wastewater system when the metal was spilled during a project at the NIST.

According to a report in the Denver Post, the contamination may have reached the municipal system when two people involved in the spill a week earlier washed their hands in a washroom, just feet from the lab where a vial holding a quarter gram of plutonium powder was spilled.

An unspecified number of federal workers on the Boulder, Colo., campus of the National Institute of Standards and Technology will have to be treated for plutonium contamination after an accident.

NIST officials confirmed that a "small number of personnel" have tested positive for the exposure and will undergo chelation treatment in hopes of preventing an advanced risk for cancer.
