Medical Health News

We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

Often in the wake of a big massacre such as what happened recently in Aurora, people are scared, sad and looking for answers.

Unfortunately, the media ALWAYS distorts the problem; placing blame on the need for stricter gun laws, or gun bans altogether. The truth is the gun is hardly the problem as everyone knows; guns don't kill people, people kill people. When incidents like this occur, shouldn't people be focusing on what caused this senseless act to happen in the first place, rather than the weapons that were used to carry out these horrific acts? But don't expect the media to let you know that one of the biggest causes is the products of the pharmaceutical companies that just happen to bankroll the corporate gatekeepers.

After 18 months, "We inquired about our status and [the IRS agent] said she was probably going to recommend that our application not be [granted]," Dobson told TheBlaze.

"She said we were political and we had criticized President Obama ... and she said we did it when he was a candidate." Wow. American citizens are now being punished for criticizing a president. What happened to Freedom of Speech? This is very serious.

What would make three grown men eat spinach laced with E. coli?  Dateline NBC puts irradiation technology to the test.

Harlan Clemmons, the president of SADEX, says modern irradiation technology has nothing to do with anything nuclear or radioactive. In fact, he says it's more accurate to call it "electronic pasteurization"

The new Wii games system from Nintendo has given gamers a reason to get out of the couch and at least some exercise out of it. Compared to other typical video gamers, Wii gamers are reporting more frequent injuries in their wrists and shoulders.

However, with the right pre-cautions and care, much of these injuries can be prevented. Before Wii, gamers only used their fingers and thumbs to control the game. Not much movement was required from the rest of the body.

What about the father?

Small items of news often tell us more about the zeitgeist than the greatest events of the day. The British Medical Journal for June 9 reported that a Spanish gynecologist in Majorca had been ordered by a court to pay $520,000 in child support for a child who was born after his attempt to abort it at the mother's request failed. In addition, the gynecologist was ordered to pay the mother $190,000 to compensate her for the distress and disruption she suffered from the continued pregnancy and the birth of the child (though she is reported now to be very happy with him, and is pleased that he was born).

Those with vested interests in smoking cessation somehow avoid scrutiny. Hmm.

When does an interest become vested? Generally, I suppose, when it is an interest in something of which you disapprove. No one would suggest, for example, that an oncologist had a vested interest in cancer merely because cancer was the sine qua non of his calling. Only those who derive an income from the sale of carcinogens have interests that are vested. Of these, the greatest is tobacco: almost by definition, no one can have a vested interest in the reduction of smoking. Or can he?

When protecting our lives, we can rely only upon ourselves.

It's a holiday. You're at the beach with your family when you notice a man standing neck deep in the water. Something tells you he may be trying to commit suicide. Firemen and police officers soon arrive, but to your amazement, they do nothing, watching for an hour until the man finally succeeds. Then they refuse to collect his body. Disgusted, you swim out and pull the unfortunate man to shore. Fanciful fiction? Unfortunately, no.

How much do CEO and other top exec salaries add to the cost of drugs?

I had a conversation recently with someone who was quite upset about how much money pharmaceutical companies spend on CEO compensation - at a time when many people are not able to afford necessary medicines. While I do not support restricting or limiting compensation, I also often scratch my head and ask, "Does it really make sense for a corporation to give someone tens of millions a year to run a company?" Beyond a certain point, there's no useful way to spend the extra money.
