We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

Farmers today can raise corn with a built-in pesticide, soybeans that thrive when sprayed with weed killer and squash that resist viruses. Some say they're biotechnological wonders. Critics call them "Frankenfoods."

Should you worry if your food is swimming in the gene pool' Opinions were mixed among a group of experts who spoke at a daylong biotechnology conference for the Association of Food Journalists last October in Puerto Rico. But most agreed that the products should be labeled so the public can decide if they want to use them or not.

The Transportation Security Administration, notorious for feeling up grandmothers and children at airport security checkpoints, also gets off on hassling wounded combat veterans, according to a complaint filed by Representative Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.).

A recent victim of TSA stupidity was an unnamed wounded Marine who lost both of his legs in an IED blast. Hunter said in a letter to the TSA that the Marine, who is still on active duty and showed agents his military identification, was still forced to remove his prosthetic legs at one point, and at another point to stand painfully on his legs while his wheelchair was examined for explosives. "A TSA office asked the Marine to stand and walk to an alternate area, despite the fact that he physically could not stand or walk on his own. With numerous TSA officers sitting and unwilling to assist, an officer then made him remove his legs, then put them back on, only to advance to a secondary screening location where he was asked again to stand, with extraordinary difficult, while his wheelchair was examined for explosives," Hunter said.

U.S. President Barack Obama is talking to Democrats and Republicans about cutting Medicare and Social Security entitlements, a White House official said.

"He's reaching out to Democrats who understand we have to make serious progress on long-term entitlement reform, and Republicans who realize that if we had that type of entitlement reform, they'd be willing to have tax reform that raises revenues to lower the deficit," Gene Sperling, director of Obama's National Economic Council, told CNN's "State of the Union."

Organic tomatoes are smaller in size compared with conventionally grown tomatoes, but they are much better quality in terms of health, U.S. researchers say.

The study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, found tomatoes grown on organic farms were some 40 percent smaller than conventionally grown tomatoes, but contained significantly higher levels of vitamin C, sugar and lycopene - a substance linked to a lower risk of stroke and some types of cancers, particularly prostate cancer. Aurelice B. Oliveira, Eneas Gomes-Filho, Maria Raquel A. Miranda of the Universidade Federal do Ceara in Fortaleza, Brazil, and colleagues in Brazil and France, said until recently, the focus has been mainly on yield rather than on micronutritional quality of fresh plant products.

Snow shoveling is a trigger for heart attacks and hospital emergency rooms prepare for extra patients after significant snowfalls, U.S. researchers say.

"Picking up a shovel and moving hundreds of pounds of snow, particularly after doing nothing physical for several months, can put a big strain on the heart," the Harvard Health newsletter said. "Pushing a heavy snow blower can do the same thing. Cold weather is another contributor because it can boost blood pressure, interrupt blood flow to part of the heart, and make blood more likely to form clots."

Electrodes on the brain of a paralyzed man allowed him to move a robot arm to touch a friend's hand for the first time in seven years, researchers said.

Tim Hemmes, 30, who sustained a spinal cord injury in a motorcycle accident seven years ago that left him unable to move his body below the shoulders, was able to use brain-computer interface technology to control movement of a computer cursor and later a robot arm, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine reported Friday. Hemmes' thoughts were interpreted by computer algorithms and translated into intended movement, they said.
