We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

A survey of 2,100 U.S. college students found President Barack Obama, a Democrat, favored by more than 30 percentage points over GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

Jennifer L. Lawless of the American University and director of the Women and Politics Institute and Richard L. Fox of Loyola Marymount University said an additional poll of 2,166 U.S. high school students ages of 13-17 favored Obama by 10 percentage points. There was no discernible gender gap among high school students overall. In swing states, though, female respondents were slightly more likely than male respondents to support Obama. The poll, conducted by American University-GfK Custom Research LLC, was conducted Sept. 27-Oct. 16.

Several significant employers are saying they plan to reduce full-time staff to avoid having to comply with the new U.S. healthcare law.

The law itself could be in jeopardy, as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has said he would try to repeal the law known as Obamacare. President Barack Obama, on the other hand, would hold onto the law. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Pillar Hotels & Resorts, which includes 5,500 part-time workers on its payroll, is among those hiring more part-time workers. "The tendency is to say, 'Let me fill this position with a 40-hour-a-week employee.' I think we have to think different," said Chief Executive Officer Chris Russell.

A California DMV office gave a new driver's license to a man who disclosed on his renewal form a medical ailment that had rendered him legally blind.

Unlike Al Pacino in "Scent of a Woman," Mark Overland, 72, of Pacific Palisades doesn't plan to test his luck. But Overland, a lawyer who represented an elderly driver who plowed into a farmers' market killing 10 people in 2003, was disturbed enough by the DMV that he contacted the Los Angeles Times to tell his story. He described an innocent enough encounter: He filled out the form honestly, identifying himself as having retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative illness that reduces peripheral vision. In Overland's case, he has lost 94 percent of his vision and can only see a small tunnel in front of him.

Childhood bullying can lead to long-term health consequences and may be linked to mental health and behavioral problems, U.S. researchers say.

Study co-authors Leana Bouffard, director of the Crime Victims' Institute at Sam Houston State University, and doctoral student Maria Koeppel used the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, a long-term study that tracks a sample of U.S. residents born from 1980 to 1984. Nineteen percent of those surveyed said they had been a victim of repeated bullying. The study found bullying victims had more negative perceptions of their general health and mental health and higher rates of emotional/mental or behavioral problems that interfered with school or work.

At just 3.57 calories a piece, candy corn is a Halloween staple, but it hardly resembles corn and isn't the least bit healthy, a U.S. food expert says.

"Maybe it's time for a healthier candy corn," Phil Lempert, a food industry analyst, trend watcher and creator of supermarketguru.com, said in a statement. "Halloween accounts for 75 percent of the annual candy corn production and according to social media analyst NetBase, candy corn is the most talked about Halloween candy this year - both the good and the bad!"

A single junk-food meal - rich in saturated fat - is detrimental to the health of the arteries, researchers in Canada said.

Dr. Anil Nigam and colleagues at the University of Montreal-affiliated EPIC Center of the Montreal Heart Institute, compared the effects of a junk-food meal and a typical Mediterranean meal on the vascular endothelium, the inner lining of the blood vessels. Endothelial function is closely linked to the long-term risk of developing coronary artery disease.

Texas officials say the state will immediately stop paying for health services provided by Planned Parenthood after a U.S. court has refused to rehear the case.

The federal appeals court ruled in August Texas has the right to bar organizations that perform abortions or are affiliated with organizations that do so from receiving state funding. The court refused Thursday to hold what is known as an en banc hearing, with all appeals judges in the 5th Circuit participating, The Dallas Morning News reported. Officials said the Texas Women's Health Program will stop using Planned Parenthood clinics next week, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The American Academy of Dermatology says its new video demonstrates how a U.S. adult can check his or her own skin for skin cancer.

Dr. Thomas E. Rohrer, a board-certified dermatologist in Chestnut Hill, Mass., said current estimates show 20 percent of U.S. adults will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, so it's important to be familiar with your skin, especially moles. "Checking your skin for skin cancer only requires your eyes and a mirror," Rohrer said in a statement. "Examining your skin only takes a few minutes, but it could save your life."

Two therapists say a California law banning them from offering gay conversion therapy to teenagers violates their constitutional rights.
