The day after President Barack Obama took office, he circulated a memo to his executive agencies that urged administration officials to "adopt a presumption in favor of disclosure."

"Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency," Obama said at the time. Since then, the administration has touted its various "open government initiatives," its attempts to make an unprecedented amount of information about government happenings available to the public. The White House visitor log, lobbying reports, campaign finance filings - all are available to the public online.

The Republican National Committee reverses the cry of a "Republican War on Women" with a synthesis of criticisms of Barack Obama and his "boys' club" of senior advisers and supporters.

Yes, Obama's Super PAC accepted a $1 million donation from serial misogynist Bill Maher - but Obama had a "woman problem" long before that. While Obama has always worked assiduously to ensure that female voters will support him in his upcoming reelection bid (most recently even going so far as to call Sandra Fluke!), he apparently has been less concerned about the relative contentment of his female staffers.

When the Texas state administration first considered a rule to ban Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from participating in the Texas' Women's Health Program, which is jointly funded by the state of Texas and the federal government, the Obama administration retaliated by threatening to cut funding to the program entirely. Texas Health and Human Services Commissioner Thomas Suehs signed the rule anyway - and the ball was back in the Obama administration's court.

Michelle Obama has made Let's Move - an anti-childhood obesity program - her signature initiative as First Lady.

President's wives often take up causes that aren't particularly controversial and pursue non-governmental solutions to widespread personal problems, but Mrs. O has taken a decidedly political approach to her pet project, bringing considerable pressure to bear to ensure desired outcomes (like more fruit and fewer fries in McDonald's Happy Meals or lower sodium menus at Olive Garden). She has looked approvingly on the effort to create voluntary nutritional guidelines for foods marketed to children - "voluntary" guidelines that might very plausibly lead to more federal regulation of marketers.

In an interview with Piers Morgan last night, Ron Paul called the debate about the Obama administration's contraception mandate "silly."

Refusing to discuss the mandate in terms of either "women's health" or "sexual morality," Paul kept the focus squarely on the freedom-breaching nature of Obamacare in general. In this instance, Paul, who in his first career as an OBGYN delivered hundreds of babies and was paid to care for "women's health," possesses a special credibility - and his classic libertarian response was a model for how to handle the issue for those who don't want to discuss the cultural underpinnings and implications of the administration's mandate.

The Senate might just have voted to table the Blunt amendment that would have provided exemptions to the administration's contraception mandate, but a group of at least 17 conservative leaders say they will not rest until religious liberty is assured.

"By a 75 percent margin, the American people are opposed to Obama's dictatorship by mandate," ForAmerica Chairman Brent Bozell said in a news release. "The Senate had the opportunity to join with the American people in rejecting this tyranny. It shows how useless this body has become that it folded like a cheap suit. Those who voted against the Blunt amendment now own this mandate, too." Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote.org, said the mandate cannot and will not be allowed to stand.

When Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown law student and so-called contraception activist Sandra Fluke a "slut" and a "prostitute," he immediately took heat for it. What'd the legendary radio host do in response? He didn't back down, that's for sure.

Today, Rush sought to clarify his comments, but stood by his fundamental premise: Women who take money for sex are prostitutes, so women who take money for contraception for sex aren't far behind. He even went one step further, suggesting that the hard-working Americans who will have to pay higher insurance premiums to finance law students' sex lives should be able to verify that their dollars-for-contraception are put to good use...

For the fourth year in a row, president defies law that demands action on Medicare

The president must not be aware of the so-called "Medicare trigger" because, for the fourth year in a row, he's ignored it.

By law, if the trustees of Medicare issue a warning that the program faces insolvency, the president must submit a legislative proposal to reform the entitlement program no later than 15 days after he submits his budget. Specifically, the law mandates that the Medicare Trustees issue the warning when, for two consecutive years, they determine that general revenues will account for more than 45 percent of Medicare's outlays for the current fiscal year or any of the next six fiscal years.
