Reid: No, I don't plan to bring a budget to the floor this year

It's been more than 1,000 days since the Senate has passed a budget, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is unconcerned.

In fact, he says he has no plans to bring a budget to the floor in 2012, either. He argues the 2012 budget is already done because last summer's debt-ceiling deal included a few spending caps. Essentially, Reid wonders: Why do we need a long-term spending plan when we can stumble into some spending caps here and there?

Today, a CNSNews.com reporter asked Nancy Pelosi whether she would stand with her fellow Catholics and oppose the law or whether she would stand with the administration and support it.

When the administration announced earlier this month that it would stick to its decision to require religiously-affiliated employers to provide their employees with insurance that covers contraception, the national Catholic reaction was, to put it mildly, less than supportive. All across the country, Catholic bishops wrote and read letters to their flocks that read, "We cannot - we will not - comply with this unjust law."

The drama continues to deepen.

When the board of directors of the Susan G. Komen Foundation decided to halt funding to notorious abortion provider Planned Parenthood, abortion activists launched an informal investigation. Something sinister was happening here; some pro-life plague had to have infiltrated Komen. They pinned their attention on Komen's relatively new VP, Karen Handel, an admittedly pro-life former Republican candidate for the governor of Georgia. They pointed out that the announcement of Republican Rep. Cliff Stearns' investigation into Planned Parenthood preceded Komen's revision of its grant eligibility criteria, which now excludes any organization under investigation by local, state or national government.

Marco Rubio was on the right side of the debt ceiling debate this summer, and he's on the right side of the impending debt ceiling debate now.

It is unquestionably irresponsible of the president to continue to raise the debt ceiling without presenting a serious and plausible plan to reduce the debt and deficit - and the junior senator from Florida is unafraid to point that out. In a sharply worded letter to the president today, Rubio said the president's entire administration thus far has been a "profile in failed leadership."

Actually, there's more to it than that: Americans don't just think Barack Obama is a liberal; they also think he's decidedly to the left of them, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll.

I'm far less baffled by the majority's opinion of Obama than I am by the 23 percent of respondents who describe the president's views as "moderate" and the additional 15 percent who describe the president's positions as "conservative." Am I to understand that 38 percent of Americans either (a) have even more radical views than Obama, compared with which his seem "moderate" or "conservative" or (b) don't understand the meaning of the terms "moderate" and "conservative"?

After the Illinois state legislature passed a requirement that says adoption and foster-care agencies - to be eligible for state money - must consider same-sex couples as potential foster-care or adoptive parents, the Roman Catholic bishops in Illinois decided to shut down most of the Catholic Charities affiliates in the state. This isn't the first time something like this has happened: Massachusetts and Washington D.C. both passed similar requirements - and many Catholic Charities affiliates closed down in those states, as well.
