Medical Health News

We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

The Nevada Joint Union High School District board of trustees voted this week to keep its policy in which students are allowed to leave school for medical treatment without consulting their parents.

However, the trustees voted 4-1 Wednesday night at Bear River High School to change the policy so that parents would have the option of including unsealed envelopes in their child's file at school. These envelopes would be given to the student to read in the event they choose to exercise their rights to leave class for treatment, said Maggie Deetz, Nevada Union superintendent.

When a study revealed that mercury in childhood vaccines may have caused autism in thousands of kids, the government rushed to conceal the data and to prevent parents from suing drug companies for their role in the epidemic.

In June 2000, a group of top government scientists and health officials gathered for a meeting at the isolated Simpsonwood conference center in Norcross, Ga. Convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the meeting was held at this Methodist retreat center, nestled in wooded farmland next to the Chattahoochee River, to ensure complete secrecy. The agency had issued no public announcement of the session -- only private invitations to 52 attendees.

There were high-level officials from the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, the top vaccine specialist from the World Health Organization in Geneva, and representatives of every major vaccine manufacturer, including GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Wyeth and Aventis Pasteur. All of the scientific data under discussion, CDC officials repeatedly reminded the participants, was strictly "embargoed." There would be no making photocopies of documents, no taking papers with them when they left.

Pro-life group's undercover work leads to state investigation. Virtually all Planned Parenthood affiliates fail to report clear cases of statutory rape to authorities.

Planned Parenthood is on the defensive in Indiana after a pro-life group's undercover work led to a state fraud investigation and a judge's decision ordering the agency to turn over medical records for abortions done on girls under the age of 14.

Earlier this week, I came across a study that had hitherto escaped my attention. The study, conducted by a team of French doctors, was published as an abstract last summer in the journal Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (1).

The study’s findings are very interesting. The authors identified 5 patients in their practice who developed skeletal fluorosis as a consequence of drinking tea (primarily darjeeling tea) over a course of 10 to 25 years. The skeletal fluorosis in these patients was the osteomalacic variety of the disease, in which the bones become softened and weak.

I am deeply concerned over the escalating number of children who have been placed on mind-altering psychiatric drugs over the last decade after being labeled ADD and ADHD.

All too often, parents are told that their child has a mental disorder and that this is a medical condition requiring that they be put on drugs. This is fraudulent. There are no blood tests, brain scans or “chemical imbalance” tests that can prove that any of these so called mental disorders are a disease, illness or medical condition. No such tests exist. These “tests” are simply a checklist of behaviors -- subjective questionnaires -- to determine if these children have so-called mental illnesses.

At least half of U.S. medical schools are willing to give companies that sponsor studies of drugs and treatments considerable control over the results, says a survey that some doctors found troubling.

Half of the schools said they would let pharmaceutical companies and makers of medical devices draft articles that appear in medical journals, and a quarter would allow them to supply the actual results. But academics draw the line at gag orders that keep researchers from publishing negative findings. Private industry pays for more than two-thirds of medical research at U.S. universities, which has led increasingly to conflict-of-interest suspicions. Two decades ago, the federal government was the main benefactor.

Britain is in the grip of a mumps epidemic, health professionals warned yesterday, as figures showed an 18-fold increase in the number of reported cases.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said 28,470 cases were notified in the first four months of the year, almost all of which were expected to be confirmed as true cases of mumps.

Children of imprisoned mothers generally have insecure relationships with their mothers and caregivers, according to a new study published in the May/June issue of the journal Child Development.

The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Wisconsin, assessed how children thought and felt about their close relationships and family experiences in 54 children ranging from 2 ½ to 7 ½ years old whose mothers were imprisoned. Most of the children lived with their grandparents.

In the 2005-2006 school year, all parents will receive written notice of new policies from your children's schools. Many schools will ask you to sign permission slips, allowing school counselors to have conversations with your children.

You will be told how your local schools are now involved in vision and dental screenings, learning disabilities and speech impediment screenings, and other acts of kindness, but watch for the small print or the extra little blurb, which states that your children will also be evaluated for emotional wellness. Watch for wording like “happiness indicators” or “family participation.”
