"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
                                             -- George Washington

"If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U.S. membership in the UN; no gun control; and no foreign aid.

We would have no welfare for big corporations, or the "poor"; no American troops in 100 foreign countries; no NAFTA, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; no income tax. We could get rid of most of the cabinet departments, most of the agencies, and most of the budget."

Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom by Dr. Ron Paul

"Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens' lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons."
                                             -- Congressman Ron Paul

ADD and ADHD affect many areas of life including social situations, down time at home, ability to complete daily chores, and even sports and music practice.

As homeschoolers, we have tremendous freedom to adjust our learning environment for the different learning styles of our kids. We can choose curriculum, schedules, even foods and lighting that complement rather than frustrate our kids preferred way of learning.

There are many different reasons why parents make the decision to home-school their children, and often, the results are extremely positive.

One nationwide study found that home-schooled students scored in the eightieth percentile for every test category, compared to the fiftieth percentile, which happens to be the national average.

I am tired of all the nonsense we as American citizens are being fed while big business - and the government - continue to ignore the health and well-being of the fine people in this country.

I, like everyone else, took the advice of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) - the government - and received a flu shot. I chose to receive the preservative free vaccine, thinking I did not want any thimerasol (i.e. mercury) that the "regular" flu vaccine contains. Makes sense, right? Why would any of us want to be injected with mercury if it can potentially cause harm? However, what I did not realize is that the preservative-free vaccine contains formaldehyde.

Back in 1980, a prominent pediatrician named Barton Schmitt coined the term "fever phobia" to describe the understandable desire of many parents to bring down fevers in their children as quickly as possible.

A fever, not surprisingly, indicates that your child is fighting off some kind of infection, such as a simple cold, the flu, or an ear infection. It is not an illness in itself. In fact, a fever may do some good. A study published in the February 2004 Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that children who ran a fever during their first year were less likely to develop allergies later in childhood than children who did not have fever. More importantly, according to the AAP, a fever can help your child's body fight off infection.

The holiday season is the perfect time get out those scented candles and stock up on new ones. Apple pie, pumpkin spice, and evergreen are some of our favorites - year round, really. But some of the results from recent studies have given us pause.

It started when we spied an article by John Naish of the Daily Mail - the reporter said he found evidence to suggest that scented candles could actually make us quite sick. And it's not just candles; apparently "aerosols, plug-ins, gels, and incense sticks" are also troubling. The fear lies in the chemicals that can be found in the fragrance and wax. While more research certainly needs to be done to make a truly definitive statement, some researchers feel that extended, long-term use of certain scented items might lead to asthma, lung damage, or - in extreme cases - even cancer.

There doesn't appear to be a direct command or directive that says, "Do not vaccinate yourself or your children". However, I believe that there are scriptures and principles from which you can derive that unspoken directive.

We must be very careful with pharmaceutical drugs. Pharmacy comes from the Greek word pharmakeia means witchcraft, sorcery. These are the main meanings: a) the use or administering of drugs b) poisoning c) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it. Some medications are plant based, others synthetic chemicals.

Detoxing from vaccines is a process without a definite timeline. Think of it as an ongoing journey. Toxin accumulation, especially heavy metals like mercury, can take a long time to remove from the body.

If you've been vaccinated and suffer from serious vaccination damage, you're best off living a lifestyle that promotes detoxification for the rest of your life. The truth is, you may never be able to dispel all of the toxins that have caused the damage. Living the healthiest possible lifestyle may be your only way to live symptom-free. But then again, to one degree or another, this is true for everyone.

You know the feeling. It may start with a scratchy throat or with a few more aches and pains than normal. Or it could begin with a runny nose and a feeling of exhaustion. Yes, it's a cold coming on - or maybe worse - the flu.

Before you reach for the antihistamine, however, why not try an effective natural remedy instead? Essential oils have been used for centuries to fight the symptoms of the common cold. You can add them to your bathwater, diffuse them in the air you breathe or even apply them directly to your skin. Essential oils help the body fight off infection and serve to strengthen the immune system. In her book The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils, Julia Lawless explains that essential oils can boost the body's defense system against bacteria, fungi and infections.

In the United States, the patent protection process as it relates to the drug industry has been distorted by the political system, intense lobbying and large campaign contributions. The result has been pricing contrary to the greater good of the nation.

The intent of the patent process and the balance between the dual objectives have been warped over the past decade. Increasingly, drug companies are not investing in R&D proportional to the profits they earn from the drugs they bring to market, despite their protests to the contrary.

If your child climbed up the playground slide, would you stop her? Would you be OK with her using a razor-sharp saw? If he needed to play or go to sleep, would you insist that he finish his homework?

Healthy risk is part of life. For parents, that can mean the risk of rethinking parenting wisdom you've always known. Keeping kids safe is not about sheltering them. Kids need risk and conflict-in kid-sized doses. Kids become safer when they gain tools and experiences they need to encounter life.
