"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
                                             -- George Washington

"If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U.S. membership in the UN; no gun control; and no foreign aid.

We would have no welfare for big corporations, or the "poor"; no American troops in 100 foreign countries; no NAFTA, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; no income tax. We could get rid of most of the cabinet departments, most of the agencies, and most of the budget."

Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom by Dr. Ron Paul

"Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens' lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons."
                                             -- Congressman Ron Paul

"The government is best which governs least."

This week, thanks to events in Montgomery County, we learned that most of us were victims of "neglect" when we were growing up. Who would have thought it?

Our unenlightened parents kicked us out of the house to play by ourselves, assumed we could walk alone through our own neighborhood and would have chortled at the notion that they had to watch us every minute. They thought it was unhealthy for school-aged kids to spend all day tied to parental apron strings.

Writing on this topic feels like standing before a giant with a thousand voices and opinions. I will be honest and upfront - I won't be able to represent everyone.

In the recent months I have been approached by almost half a dozen parents who are considering homeschooling. My response is "Do it!" Those are the first words that come out. Some ask if my husband and I area worried about their social life. Um, yes we are. Then they try without accusation to look over at our kids and see if they are normal and not hermits.

The political climate in America is heating up - not just because we're entering a presidential election cycle - but because there's a perfect storm brewing that is providing corporate access to our political system like never before.

For Californians, it has shown up in the form of Sen. Richard Pan. Pan, D-Sacramento, is a pediatrician. He has been the driving force behind all major vaccine legislation in California for the past five years. As a state assemblyman, he launched and helped pass AB 2109, legislation signed into law that directly caused a 6% increase in vaccinations statewide from 2010 to 2014 (89% to 94.7%).

In the battle against the Common Core, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that the proliferation of these top-down education standards is driving a massive increase in the number of homeschoolers.

Families are realizing that if they want their children to benefit from individualized education, if they want to protect their children from data mining, and if they want to be free of the Common Core's one-size-fits-all approach to education, homeschooling (and certain private schools) is the only way to go.

The Board of Supervisors for Los Angeles County have agreed to pay the parents of two children $800,000 after a sheriff's deputy and accompanying social workers forcibly removed them.

In their lawsuit, Sebastian Xoss and Mirtha Lopez accused the county of the "baseless, unreasonable, and unlawful" removal of their 6-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son from the hotel where they were staying on Feb. 10, 2011. They had gone to the hotel in part to escape suspected abuse of the daughter by a relative of Lopez, according to the lawsuit.

Attorneys for several Native American tribes and families that are suing South Dakota say they need to see records of a circuit court judge's conversations to show how he ordered fellow judges to handle child custody hearings.

The attorneys for the Oglala Sioux and Rosebud Sioux tribes and several Native American parents contended during a hearing Thursday that 7th Circuit Judge Jeff Davis must reveal how he advised fellow judges to conduct 48-hour child custody hearings, the Rapid City Journal reported.

We have previously reported about what some in South Dakota are calling a "Shocking Genocide Against Native Americans by Abducting Their Children."

Listen to Attorney Daniel Sheehan of the Lakota People's Law Project explain how the Department of Social Services in South Dakota makes up 53% of the entire state budget every year by removing Lakota Native Americans from their families and placing them into the foster care system.

A bill passed by the Virginia House today would put strict limitations on the use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) by law enforcement in the state, putting significant roadblocks in the way of a federal program.

Introduced by Senators Peterson and Black, Senate Bill 965 (SB965) reads, in part: any information collected from a license plate reader shall only be retained for seven days and shall not be subject to any outside inquiries or internal usage except for the investigation of a crime or a report of a missing person.

I've never been one to really assert myself into the middle of other people's business. I believe we should all have the right to choose what we do with our own bodies and how we bring up our kids (within reason, of course).

I love my kids and at the core of every issue, that love is the driving factor for most every decision I make . When you boldly and critically assert that I don't responsibly love my kids and you further your baseless conjecture by saying my anti-vaccination stance poses a threat to your kids and our society at large, you engage my inner, protective mother demon (yes, it is there, but only when it has to be).
