"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
                                             -- George Washington

"If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U.S. membership in the UN; no gun control; and no foreign aid.

We would have no welfare for big corporations, or the "poor"; no American troops in 100 foreign countries; no NAFTA, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; no income tax. We could get rid of most of the cabinet departments, most of the agencies, and most of the budget."

Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom by Dr. Ron Paul

"Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens' lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons."
                                             -- Congressman Ron Paul

"The government is best which governs least."

The overwhelming majority of our advertisers never serve an ad that violates our policies and terms. But occasionally we see violations, and on very rare occasions, our systems wrongly detect an ad as being in violation of policy.

I wanted to explain why this happens and what you can do if it happens to you. Ads help fund businesses across the web, and enable people everywhere to enjoy their favorite services and content, often for free. Yet, bad online advertising practices - like spammy emails, deceptive or misleading ads, and worse - quickly ruin users' experiences online and discourage people from using the web. As a result, we all have a vested interest in fighting these bad ads with serious firepower. Last year, of the billions of ads submitted to Google we disabled more than 130 million, and reduced the percentage of bad ads by more than 50% compared with the year before. These are big numbers, but we're doing what's necessary to deliver a safe, trustworthy experience that meets our highest standards.

We're investing in many ways to give users control over the ads they see.

On YouTube, our TrueView ad products enables users to skip video ads. On Google search, you can click "Why this Ad?" and stop sites you're not interested in from showing you ads. Our Ads Preferences Manager, available with one click on the AdChoices icon on ads on the Google Display Network, enables you to edit your interest categories, or opt out of all interest based ads including remarketing ads on our Display Network. Over the next few weeks, we're introducing a small [x] which will appear in the corner of some display ads on the Google Display Network. When a user clicks the [x], he or she will no longer see ads from that campaign.

Our AdWords engineers are constantly working to make ads more relevant and useful. We're also working to give users more transparency and choice with the ads that they see.

Starting today we're placing a "Why these ads?" link on Google search results and Gmail (known as Google Mail in some countries). When a user clicks the link, it expands to explain details about why each ad was shown. A user can also access the Ads Preferences Manager for search and Gmail.

It's already a few weeks into the new year, but it's never too late to set resolutions. That's why today we'd like to share the outcome of our bi-annual publisher satisfaction survey.

Over 28,000 of you participated globally, and we received more than 33,000 comments on your favorite aspects about AdSense as well as changes you'd like to see. The main areas of improvement that emerged from the survey are: AdSense Program Policies, AdSense Support, and Communication from AdSense. Your feedback is very important to us and we'd like to share some insights on what we've done in these areas so far and how we want to further improve them. We're also working on improving in other important areas like payments and we'll continue to report back on those throughout the year.

Starting in October, the +1 button will begin to appear on display ads on your site. With a single click, people will now be able to endorse specific ads and make them more likely to appear to their social connections.

We believe that these recommendations could lead your readers to notice ads on your site more, leading to more clicks and higher returns for you over time. For example, take Susan, who sees an ad for a good deal on flights. She +1's the ad, thinking her friends might value this deal. Now, when Susan's friends and contacts are signed in to their Google accounts, they'll be able to see Susan's picture across the bottom of the ad, with a note saying she +1'd it.

Google: "As part of our ongoing goal to provide more payment options around the world, we're very excited to announce the arrival of Western Union Quick Cash® payments for the Palestinian Territories (Gaza & the West Bank)."

I guess it's clear which side Google favors.

Alabama already has one of the loosest gun restrictions in the country, but lawmakers felt there was one area that Alabamans were still be oppressed: Kids couldn't legally carry around handguns.

To rectify this gap in the unstated "guns for everyone" mentality of Alabama's Republican-led legislature, lawmakers have proposed an amendment to the state's gun laws that would allow minors to acquire their very own pistols. At the moment, the law is on a bit more even keel, stipulating that "no person shall deliver a pistol to any person under the age of 18." Lawmakers want that changed to allow minors to have pistols, but only if they get the permission of a "parent, guardian, or spouse who is 18 or older.

The latest in an ever-growing list of employers who seem to be going out of their way to keep their employees from getting the healthcare they so desperately need is the fast food chain Wendy's.

A franchise in Omaha, Nebraska has announced that they will move all non-management employees to part-time in an effort to keep them from being eligible for coverage under the new federal law. From an article at Think Progress: "Gary Burdette, vice president of operations for the local franchise, says the cuts are coming because the new Affordable Health Care Act requires employers to offer health insurance to employees working 32-38 hours a week. Under the current law they are not considered full time and that as a small business owner, he can't afford to stay in operation and pay for everyone's health insurance."

Republican Governor Mitch Daniels has signed Senate Enrolled Act 1 into law in Indiana.

The new law allows citizens to use deadly force against police officers they think are illegally entering their homes. Earlier this month, Addicting Info reported that the bill had passed the Senate. Republicans say the bill is designed to keep police safe, but Democrats say the bill will lead to the wanton killing of police officers.
