A state House bill meant to address the deaths of two Effingham County teenagers was changed Thursday to answer concerns of parents who homeschool their children and dislike government intrusion.

"This won't catch every one," the bill's sponsor, state Rep. Bill Hitchens, R-Rincon, said during a Juvenile Justice Committee meeting Wednesday, but he said it will be worthwhile if it saves one child. "I don't believe it's significant in terms of numbers but if it's you, it's pretty significant." House Bill 530 is meant to prevent another case like the one in Effingham County, where siblings Mary and Elwyn Crocker Jr. quit attending public school and were found buried behind their family's house in the Guyton area Dec. 20.

Erie hospital to pay, rehire ex-workers who refused flu shots

Saint Vincent Hospital has agreed to rehire six former employees it fired after they refused to get flu shots in late 2013 and early 2014 due to their religious beliefs.

The Erie hospital also will provide about $300,000 in back pay and compensatory damages to the employees as part of an agreement to settle a lawsuit filed on behalf of the workers by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in September. A consent decree that ended the case and detailed the settlement terms was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Erie.

A prominent advocate in the state's medical cannabis movement is urging the criminal justice system to consider whether the Utah Gun Exchange co-owner charged last week with intent to distribute the drug was using it as medicine.

During a November search of Bryan Alan Melchior's Sandy home, police say, officers found more than a pound of marijuana, THC products, $36,247 in cash and nearly 30 guns. While police had received complaints that Melchior - known for his counterprotests against Parkland, Fla., high school students - was allegedly selling drugs from his home, DJ Schanz with the Utah Patients Coalition has a different explanation.

Under Wisconsin law, a Defendant has 45 days to submit a response, which would make it imperative that I reply by 11 January 2019, with either an ANSWER or a MOTION TO DISMISS. I filed an ANSWER rather than a MOTION TO DISMISS early on 4 January 2019 because I do not want the case to be dismissed. I want to have a formal, legal resolution. The Complaint is narrowly drawn to focus on assertions I have made-no doubt, hundreds of times-that the death certificate that Leonard Pozner gave to Kelley Watt is a fabrication, where the Complaint cites two instances in which I made that assertion, one from Ch. 11 of the book, NOBODY DIED AT SANDY HOOK (2nd edition, 2016), which I edited, and one from "How We Know Sandy Hook Was A FEMA Drill, Nobody Died, for an Anti-Gun Agenda" (5 August 2018), published as a contribution to SANDY HOOK TRUTH: MEMORANDA FOR THE PRESIDENT (2018).
