Do innocent people who follow the law send emails like this?

Lois Lerner just got smoked on the floor of Congress by Congressman Jim Jordan in front of the smug IRS head John Koskinen. Emails recovered on the IRS official who plead the Fifth (before giving up her right to remain silent) and then "lost" her hard drive show that she was wanting to make sure that the IRS' internal messaging system was set-up to make sure her info was not traceable, trackable or storeable. The phrasing could not be more "perfect."

Prime Minister David Cameron has secured the backing of all three main parties for the highly unusual move. He said urgent action was needed to protect the public from "criminals and terrorists" after the European Court of Justice struck down existing powers. But civil liberties campaigners have warned it will invade people's privacy.

In what appears to be one of Edward Snowden's final revelations, the former CIA and NSA agent has demonstrated conclusively that the National Security Agency has collected and analyzed the contents of emails, text messages, and mobile and landline phones.

This puts the lie to the government's claims that it has only collected metadata -- identifying markers such as phone numbers and email addresses -- and not content from unsuspecting and unsuspected Americans. It puts the lie to the government's claims that it has studiously avoided prying into the private lives of Americans, in whom it has no intelligence-related or lawful interest. And this puts the lie to the government's contentions and the opinions of judges of the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that the NSA's spying is somehow lawful, constitutional and helpful.

Depending on whom you ask, so-called "free energy devices" are either a total hoax or a systematically suppressed technology that's being kept away from the public. There's a lot of interesting ground to cover on this subject of "over unity devices."

If free energy technology were to be developed and openly shared with the world, it would very rapidly lead to runaway global warming. I don't mean by emitting greenhouse gasses because obviously such devices don't burn fossil fuels. What I mean is literal, actual WARMING: the production of heat that's released into the atmosphere. Joules and BTUs, in other words. Where would all this heat come from? From the work performed by the devices, obviously. And if these devices really produce energy from nothing (or from zero point energy, a parallel universe, or whatever), then they are introducing heat into this world that didn't exist here to begin with.

The National Security Agency and FBI have covertly monitored the emails of prominent Muslim-Americans-including a political candidate and several civil rights activists, academics, and lawyers-under secretive procedures intended to target terrorists.

The individuals appear on an NSA spreadsheet in the Snowden archives called "FISA recap"-short for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Under that law, the Justice Department must convince a judge with the top-secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that there is probable cause to believe that American targets are not only agents of an international terrorist organization or other foreign power, but also "are or may be" engaged in or abetting espionage, sabotage, or terrorism. The authorizations must be renewed by the court, usually every 90 days for U.S. citizens. The spreadsheet shows 7,485 email addresses listed as monitored between 2002 and 2008. Many of the email addresses on the list appear to belong to foreigners whom the government believes are linked to Al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah. Among the Americans on the list are individuals long accused of terrorist activity, including Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan, who were killed in a 2011 drone strike in Yemen.

Glenn Greenwald published his much anticipated article naming Americans the NSA and FBI are spying on last night. The list includes Muslim Americans involved in politics, government, law, and education.

Today in a Reddit AMA, Greeenwald said, in response to a question on whether there were other groups who were targeted by the NSA, that he couldn't discuss it a the moment, "but there are more stories coming." The entire article is worth the lengthy read, but what I found to be the most heartbreaking line came from Faisal Gill, who was spied on by the NSA, even though he had a top security clearance, while he was running for public office.

With the line between federal, state and local law enforcement becoming increasingly blurred, Americans also need to pay attention to local actions to see and understand the big picture.

Take for example a new program law enforcement agencies in Grand Rapids, Mich. recently implemented. According to a MLive/The Grand Rapids Press report, downtown businesses now offer the Grand Rapids Police and Kent County Sheriff's Department live access to their outdoor surveillance cameras. The two agencies are tapping into private video feeds from existing cameras mounted on the exterior of private commercial buildings downtown, the Kent County emergency management coordinator said. Previously, police would request video from private feeds during the course of a criminal investigation. Now, police will be able to monitor the feeds in real time from county and city dispatch centers.
