Politics in the News

Whether you are a libertarian, conservative, NRA member or simply a citizen concerned with today's political climate, you will find news items of interest and relevance on Reliable Answers "Politics in the News."

What message are our legislators sending to voters, when they publicly admit they haven't done their job? How many bills are passed each year that policymakers haven't even bothered to read? This is disgraceful. This is called dereliction of duties and we must demand a stop to this practice.

Jennifer Smith was conducting a little police accountability Friday night by filming an Henrico County police officer who'd parked illegally at a gas station.

The officer was on official duty, however, as Smith points out in the video there were five legal parking spaces available. The officer apparently parked illegally just because he can. Smith explains that she has a plethora of footage of the Henrico County cops breaking the law. She also explains how she and her husband are constantly harassed by these same cops. She has had enough.

Bryce Weber walked out of his house to find an unmarked police car sitting in the road, so he became curious.

Weber, well aware of his first amendment right, walked outside with his camera rolling. He then simply asked the officer if everything was alright, being that he was parked right outside of his house. They established that everything was indeed "okay," the officer got back in his car and Weber, well within his rights, continued to film. This cop must have been camera shy, so he felt it necessary to exit his vehicle and demand that Weber stop filming. Weber tries to inform the officer that he is not doing anything wrong.

13 illegal immigrants and two Americans were taken into custody by Border Patrol agents at the Campo Border Patrol Westbound I-8 checkpoint in California.

With the surge of law enforcement and National Guard troops to America's southern border, the Rio Grande Valley region is becoming increasingly difficult for Mexico's criminal cartels to penetrate. Immigrants who see men armed with automatic weapons and dressed in combat fatigues, like the Texas game wardens currently patrolling the border, may also suddenly become motivated to seek access to the United States elsewhere.

Leaders of two police unions had some strong words Tuesday over what they are calling anti-police rhetoric in the wake of the death of Eric Garner last month.

After watching this press conference one is left wondering, are these cops or is this central casting for the next mafioso blockbuster?

A SWAT team is under investigation for storming into a home in Coconut Grove at around 11 a.m. with a narcotics warrant.

According to the homeowner, Bobby Mclendon, the warrant that SWAT presented to raid his house was for 2 blocks away. However these brutes did not care. They came in belligerent, with guns drawn ordering children around like slaves. When the children didn't react fast enough to the officers' commands one child was subsequently bludgeoned with the buttstock of a rifle. "They didn't have any reason to, but they hit my nephew in the head with their rifle. He's 13," recounts Mclendon.

Sheer insanity. This isn't some raving drunk off the street. This is the president of one of the largest teachers unions in the United States - a nation which is slowly turning against the disastrous "Common Core" system of Federally-imposed standards.

Michael Mulgrew, president of New York's United Federation of Teachers, unloaded a hateful rant against critics of the Common Core Standards Initiative. "If someone takes something from me, I'm going to grab it right back out of their cold, twisted, sick hands and say it is mine!" Mulgrew bellowed clownishly. "You do not take what is mine!" The union boss also challenged opponents of Common Core and union control over education to a fist fight.

'So this is like an insurance policy on the environment that you're mandated to have? Like Obamacare?'

It's easy to voice support for various ideas, whether it's taxes or corporate regulations. Especially when those burdens don't fall on your own shoulders. That's exactly what these environmental activists - supporters of new, stricter EPA regulations - discovered when confronted by tough questions from CNS News' Dan Joseph.

In some respects, the recent admission by CIA Director John Brennan that his agents and his lawyers have been spying on the senators whose job it is to monitor the agency should come as no surprise.

The agency's job is to steal and keep secrets, and implicit in those tasks, Brennan would no doubt argue, is lying. Yet in another respect, this may very well be a smoking gun in the now substantial case against President Barack Obama that alleges that much of his official behavior has manifested lawlessness and incompetence. It is hard to believe that the president did not know about this but not hard to believe he would look the other way.

President Obama, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, unilaterally authorized "targeted" airstrikes on Iraq late last night.

But, don't worry- this doesn't mean war, according to the President. In his speech he stated, "As commander in chief, I will not allow the United States to be drawn into fighting another war in Iraq." Well, that's a relief! Especially since these "limited" and "targeted" airstrikes were not authorized by Congress.
