The story of Paul Woodroof is a cautionary tale of what happens when the government steps in and overrides people's health care decisions.

I have not yet seen the new movie, The Dallas Buyers Club, but it looks pretty darn interesting. Matthew McConaughey plays the true-life lead character, Ron Woodroof, a homophobic party boy who is diagnosed with HIV and is given just 30 days to live. When the government-approved drugs don't help him, Woodroof does not go gently into the night (and to his grave). Instead, he travels abroad to buy medicine in other countries and on the black market and then he returns to sell them to others similarly situated here in the United States. The film evidently doesn't gloss over the fact that he seeks a profit as he engages in these acts. (That's a trait Woodroof shares with other human beings in the drug business, though the film does not dwell on that.)

Video from California Highway Patrol here. So much wrong here. The entire encounter with the police seems dubious. The use of the taser was unnecessary and excessive.

Some like to point out that the prisons are not filled with marijuana users. True, but what's hard to see are the countless injustices that go on because marijuana is illegal. Ms. Jones was fearful of a search of her purse, which contained some marijuana. If marijuana were legal, she would not have been concerned and this tragic incident would not have happened. Recall that the rationale behind the criminalization of marijuana is to protect people: keep them healthy and safe. More and more people are recognizing that the war on drugs makes things worse, not better.

"I heard 'pop, pop' and I screamed out , 'Oh, God please don't shoot my dog, and walked to the door and he's just laying there gasping for breath," King said. King added that the officer admitted his dog never tried to bite him.

Without warning, 30 federal agents with guns and bulletproof vests stormed our guitar factories in Tennessee.

They shut down production, sent workers home, seized boxes of raw materials and nearly 100 guitars, and ultimately cost our company $2 million to $3 million worth of products and lost productivity. Why? We imported wood from India to make guitars in America.... The Aug 24 raid was authorized under the Lacey Act. Originally enacted as a means to curb the poaching of endangered species, the law bans wildlife and plants from being imported if, according to the interpretation of federal bureaucrats, the importation violates a law in the country of origin.

More than a dozen Long Beach Police officers raided the store and show officers forcing one employee on the ground. Officers then proceed to step on him.

The volunteer employee Dorian Brooks was entirely cooperative at the scene before being stepped on. The officers then notice the security cameras and proceeded to destroy them with a metal bar. The after-raid video shows extensive damage to the store. The dispensary lacked a city permit, but was operating in compliance with state law. Five people were arrested.

In another display of ignorance, Mark Dice asks Obamacare supporters to sign a petition that would add birth control to America's water supply.

Seriously, it's things like this that make me wonder if some of these individuals are literally the walking dead, unable to think about what they are even doing. Dice tells the petitioners that since there is a desire to remove birth control from college campuses, the petition is to put sterilants into the water supply in a similar manner to fluoride, in order to reduce birth rates. He even makes it clear that it's a "modern day eugenics program" and that whether people want it or not they'll be getting a dose of birth control.

Barack Obama issued an executive order on July 16, 2013 titled "HIV Care Continuum Initiative" which he claims will be a national movement and federal involvement in the war on HIV/AIDS.

According to the executive order, recommendations are that HIV testing be administered for "all individuals ages 15 to 65 years" and this will be overseen by the US Preventative Services Task Force, coordinating with, you guessed it, criminal Kathleen Sebelius' Department of Health and Human Services.

Who says learning can't be fun? With summer comes camping, and with camping comes fun educational experiences for the whole family. Camping offers us the opportunity to use our five senses in a spectacular way.

Enjoy the beauty of the sunrise, listen to the wildlife around you, learn about various nature ecosystems and study the formation of constellations in the sky. With a little creativity and the great outdoors as your playground, learning fun is inevitable! A scavenger hunt is a great way to explore the camp surroundings. Be sure to set some basic safety rules such as boundaries.

From "significant" to "natural," here are seven scientific terms that can prove troublesome for the public and across research disciplines

Hypothesis. Theory. Law. These scientific words get bandied about regularly, yet the general public usually gets their meaning wrong. Now, one scientist is arguing that people should do away with these misunderstood words altogether and replace them with the word "model." But those aren't the only science words that cause trouble, and simply replacing the words with others will just lead to new, widely misunderstood terms, several other scientists said. "A word like 'theory' is a technical scientific term," said Michael Fayer, a chemist at Stanford University. "The fact that many people understand its scientific meaning incorrectly does not mean we should stop using it. It means we need better scientific education."
