Yosemite National Park has extended the public review period for policies related to visitation of Half Dome.

The public can submit written ideas until Tuesday, July 6, about use of the Half Dome cables. Yosemite is drafting a long-term plan to ensure that use of the trail leading to Half Dome, and the Half Dome cables, follows the 1964 Wilderness Act and the National Park Service Organic Act.

Stop Yellowstone National Park from spending $9 million taxpayer dollars to vaccinate half the wild bison population annually for 30 years with "an imperfect vaccine" approved for use in cattle, NOT approved for wild buffalo.

Yellowstone National Park has released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to begin shooting wild buffalo with an ineffective, costly, harmful, intrusive, and culturally unacceptable brucellosis vaccine. Visitors to Yosemite National Park over the Memorial Day holiday weekend should expect the park to be busy. People planning trips into the park are strongly encouraged to arrive before 10:00 a.m. or after 2:00 p.m. to avoid long waits at the entrance.

All campgrounds on the reservation system are full. There are a very limited number of first-come, first-served campsites available throughout the park. Visitors should arrive early to secure a campsite. All trails within Yosemite are open, however some may still have snow patches and ice present on the trail. Hikers should be aware that spring weather can be unpredictable and change without warming.

A generous heart, an innovative mind, tireless hands and an independent spirit. Dick died April 21 at age 94, having lived nearly his entire adult life in a cave above the Salmon River outside of Elk Bend.

Dick eschewed electricity and running water for life inside a cave and living off the land. Old windows from pickup trucks covered the front of his cave. He made what he needed -- from the yogurt to a fly swatter. He raised goats and grew his own food. He earned a few bucks by renting out nearby caves to those passing through, or those wanting to stay longer.
