The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission has proposed minor changes to several fall hunting seasons, including Mountain Lion, East River Deer and Antelope.

The Commission had made an initial proposal in May to allow a harvest limit of 35 mountain lions, or 20 female mountain lions. At its June meeting, the Commission changed that proposal to increase the harvest limit to 40 mountain lions or 25 female mountain lions.

State wildlife officials believe they have saved more than 1,400 moose or nearly 3,000 caribou -- or some combination thereof -- with a winter program to kill wolves from aircraft, although the wolf kill remains far below what the state wanted.

Pilot-gunner teams have taken 124 wolves to date, according to Bruce Bartley, spokesman for the Alaska Division of Wildlife Conservation. The goal was 455 to 670 wolves. Still, the kill, which is ongoing, is more than the 97 wolves gunners took last year.

Robert Guinn and his family had quite a shock when they recently discovered a dead mountain lion beneath their Whitmore home's deck. Guinn answered some questions this week about his find.

I'm embarrassed to say that the mountain lion was literally right under our noses for about a week before we noticed. We have a south-facing deck that is about 12 feet off the ground that overlooks Cow Creek in Whitmore. I'd been on that deck daily, leaning up against the railing, enjoying the view with my morning coffee or a nice pinot in the evenings. I'd had no cause to look straight down.

At around 7:30 Friday morning, inhabitants of The Garden of Eden, a small Intentional Community based on Sustainability, awakened to a SWAT raid conducted by the City of Arlington for suspicion of being a full fledged marijuana growth and trafficking op.

Ultimately only a single arrest was made based on unrelated outstanding traffic violations, a handful of citations were given for city code violations, and zero drug related violations were found. The entire operation lasted about 10 hours and involved many dozens of city officials, SWAT team, police officers and code compliance employees, and numerous official vehicles including dozens of police cars and several specialized vehicular equipment that was involved in the "abatement" operation. Witnesses say that there were helicopters and unmanned flying drones circling the property in the days prior to the raid that are presumed to have been a part of the intelligence gathering. The combined expenses for the raid itself and the collection of information leading up to the fruitless raid are estimated in the tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.

A few weeks ago, we reported that, while many across the country are concerned about measles, which occurs in a largely vaccinated population and has caused no deaths, a larger threat wasn't receiving proper attention: drug-resistant tuberculosis...

These infect at least two million Americans each year and kill 23,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A recent article in The Atlantic magazine highlighted the antimicrobial qualities of plant extracts and essential oils. The article notes that "various oils have also been shown to effectively treat a wide range of common health issues such as nausea and migraines, and a rapidly growing body of research is finding that they are powerful enough to kill human cancer cells of the breast, colon, mouth, skin, and more."

Last week we sent an emergency email to our subscribers about a terrible biotech rider attached to the big must-pass Appropriations bill that would let GMO crops be planted even when a court has ordered a stop.

Since last week, the Senate has been debating a Continuing Resolution (CR) for the big Appropriations funding bill (H.R. 933). Sen. Tester (D-MT) and three colleagues introduced an amendment to strike the biotech rider. Yesterday the Senate voted (63-35) to end debate on its version of the CR. They narrowly met this margin-60 votes are required to end debate on a bill. And unfortunately, the GMO rider is still in this final version of the bill. The Tester amendment to remove the language was not included in the final agreement to proceed and sadly will not voted on.

Aspartame is already allowed in your kids' milk. Now they want to erase it from the labels. Action Alert!

The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) are petitioning the FDA to let them remove any reference to non-nutritive sweeteners, mainly aspartame, from milk labels in school lunches. They claim-in one of the most spectacular failures of logic we've ever seen-that not labeling the milk "promotes honesty and fair-dealing in the interest of consumers." Huh?

Which organic brands really believe in organic-and which are working behind the scenes to betray natural health consumers? It's time for a boycott. Action Alert!

Many natural and organic brands are actually owned by huge conglomerates that don't support sustainable, organic, non-GMO, non-toxic agriculture. In fact, their product labels are often designed to mislead consumers just so they can grab a share of the lucrative health-conscious consumer market. Even worse, many of the conglomerate companies that produce so-called natural foods-and even some labeled "organic"-are allied with the biotech industry fighting by any means to defeat "Label GMO," a.k.a. Prop 37, the California Right to Know 2012 Ballot Initiative. Why are they doing such a thing? Because they sell more food that has GMO ingredients than organic food, and don't want consumers to have a choice about the GMO. They especially don't want consumers to know what is actually in their so-called "natural" products.

Ethical insurance shoppers have been advised on symptoms they should look out for that would indicate a possible need for chiropractic therapy.

Kathleen Inman works with a veterinarian and told the Tennessean that her interventions can do a lot of good and have even allowed a paraplegic canine to walk again. She noted there were a number of signs owners could keep an eye on that may suggest back problems in animals.

Drug enforcement authorities in Washington are encountering an unusual but awesome problem after the state voted to legalize recreational use of cannabis last year: re-training drug dogs to "unsmell" weed.

It's not a requirement in the state, but departments in Seattle, Bremerton, and Bellevue have opted to either have veteran dogs go through unsmelling training or refrain from teaching new dogs to smell the plant. "We wanted to train our dog on what was truly illegal substances, that would be heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine," says Duke Roessel, a dog-handling Bremerton police officer.
