We heard from Judge Andrew Napolitano this morning on America's Newsroom on NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

. On Sunday, an NSA whistleblower identified himself and said he is seeking protection from U.S. prosecution in Hong Kong. Last week, based on information from 29-year-old Edward Snowden, The Guardian reported that the U.S. government had a top-secret court order to compile phone data from all U.S. Verizon users, triggering a passionate defense of the program by President Obama on Friday. Bill Hemmer asked the judge what he thinks we need to understand about what Snowden is telling us...

Attorney General Eric Holder has flatly rejected the idea of appointing special counsel to investigate the Benghazi situation.

Between Benghazi, the seizure of AP phone records, and the IRS scandal, can we really trust government officials to handle these situations on their own? Judge Napolitano said pointedly, "The common thread here is that the government can't be trusted, but the government thinks that we will trust them. The government will break whatever law it wants in order to meet its own political ends."

Scared that CISPA might pass? The federal government is already using a secretive cybersecurity program to monitor online traffic and enforce CISPA-like data sharing between Internet service providers and the Department of Defense.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center has obtained over 1,000 pages of documents pertaining to the United States government's use of a cybersecurity program after filing a Freedom of Information Act request, and CNET reporter Declan McCullagh says those pages show how the Pentagon has secretly helped push for increased Internet surveillance.

Hoax and ensuing crash on Wall Street show the new dangers of our light-speed media world.

A hacked Twitter account of a major news organization Tuesday dispelled any lingering notion that tweets are mere 140-character missives that harmlessly fly off into the ether. The FBI and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating the security breach that momentarily sent stocks into free fall Tuesday, erasing some $200 billion from the market's value.

Two new updates are available for Mac users that aim to increase security and control over how the Java web plugin runs in the Safari web browser.

Named as Java for OS X 2013-003 and Safari 6.0.4 (or Safari 5.1.9 for older versions of OS X), the updates are available right now through Software Update via the  Apple menu. The updates combine to roughly 110MB and requires Safari be quit before installing, though a reboot is not necessary, and should be considered must-have upgrades to existing software for those who use Safari and/or Java on the Mac.

In the US and many countries there's a refusal to force manufacturers to clearly label products that use GMO's. Wheat, Corn, almost all food stocks are now GMO's and many are used as feed to animals.

Look at low chicken and pork prices in the US and what are those animals fed mostly? GMO's. When I was a kid in the 70's the news talked about vaccines being implanted into crops in Africa to help fight disease. A noble goal indeed. Instead this has turned into a vicious money game with big players like Monsanto controlling whole markets with government support. The big questions other than following the money is simply why not label foods GMO and give the public the choice? Why suppress information? Why suppress studies? Even foods labelled as Organic or with organic practices may be grown from GMO seeds.

The surest way to know that an attack method is working for a malware gang is seeing the method repeated over a period of several months.

Apple has released the OS X 10.8.3 Update for Mac users running Mountain Lion.

The update includes a handful of bug fixes, a new version of Safari, support for installing Windows 8 through Boot Camp, support for installing Boot Camp on drives larger than 3TB, and the ability to redeem iTunes Gift Cards through the Mac App Store using a camera, much like you can already with iTunes. The peculiar File:// bug that caused applications to crash instantly is also resolved with the update.
