According to several reports posted Monday, the loosely-connected, and frequently politically motivated hacking group Anonymous targeted a web hosting provider, Freedom Hosting, last week alleging that the site hosted more than 40 child pornography sites.

The attack, part of a project apparently dubbed "Operation Darknet," is described in detail in a timeline posted to Pastebin, which is referred to there as a "press release." The "darknet" referenced in the operation's name refers to a deliberately hidden portion of the Internet, in this case, one based on the free TOR routing service, which enables anyone encrypted anonymous web browsing via a set of browser plugins.
