Uploadify™ is a jQuery plugin that allows you to easily add multiple file upload functionality to your website.

It is used in a lot of WordPress themes and plugin to allow users upload files onto the website server. However there is a vulnerability in the code that allows unrestricted upload of files: An attacker might be able to upload arbitrary files containing malicious PHP code because the uploaded file extension isn't properly checked.

WordPress sites self-hosted on GoDaddy.com are reporting being maliciously hacked today with script tag inserts.

Warning: This is dangerous malware! Anyone visiting an infected website can get their computers infected, if they do not have a up-to-date anti-virus program using the latest threat definitions. If you receive a message to download anything when visiting an infected site, do NOT click "yes" or "okay" to download. If your website is infected, put it down for maintenance immediately.

We discovered it is being used to inject spam into websites and it has also been removed from the WordPress Plugin repository. This is a very popular plugin with more than 900,000 downloads. It has the potential to impact a lot of websites.

A quick warning to everybody that uses WordPress. WordPress.org admitted that three popular plugins in their plugin repository have been, maliciously, replaced by hacked versions in the last 24-48h or so.

On Tuesday, we shared a rather silly video which made a serious point about the need to keep websites secure.

Unfortunately, limiting potential website vulnerabilities is not exactly intuitive. There's always additonal stuff one needs to consider. For example, let's take the very popular WordPress(.org) publishing platform. WordPress itself does a pretty good job when it comes to maintaining its security. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for everybody that runs WordPress websites. Many website admins allow their WordPress installations to fall out of date, and there are numerous compromised WordPress sites online as a result. But even those admins that do keep their platform up to date still have things to worry about, such as themes.
